The ecological jewel, the Kuwait Airport

The Foster + Partners, the same architectural firm that is behind the new headquarters of Apple, recently announced plans for the new international airport in Kuwait, which will increase capacity while making it a benchmark eco-building .

"The plan has its roots in the sense that you leave the site, responding to the climate one of the hottest residential environments on earth and inspired by local styles and materials," says the firm Foster + Partners.

The new terminal will have a plan in the shape of clover to the departure gates to form three symmetrical wings. The aerodynamic appearance building will include a dramatically tall central space 25 meters, with exterior walls to extend to 1.2 km. The windows will filter the daylight and will deflect direct sunlight, and a canopy supported by concrete columns will offer shade to outdoor public spaces and entrances. In the baggage claim area there is a strong element of water, and the roof will be fitted with photovoltaic panels to harvest solar energy.

The firm Foster + Partners has designed the evaluation LEED Gold, an internationally recognized green building certification. If the goal of achieving the terminal of Kuwait will become the first in the world to have achieved such a level of environmental certification.

The Kuwait International Airport will receive annually 13 million passengers through its doors, with the flexibility to accommodate 25 million passengers, while further growth will reach up to 50 million.
