The last home of Lisa Gherardini Del Giocondo, the woman behind the famous painting by Leonardo Da Vinci, Mona Lisa claim that Italian researchers have found.
The cache was discovered after an investigation two weeks in a
abandoned monastery of experts who used ancient maps and documents.
The cache was found beneath the floor of the monastery of St Ursula in Florence. The researchers removed after the cement revealed a layer of ancient bricks.
Professor Vinceti told the British Daily Telegraph: "Below the altar we have found two caches, one above the other and believe that one of them is the grave of Lisa Gherardini" and added, "We have a long way to go. We must to work a few more days before we reach the tomb and the opening to get the bones "
"At first I felt horrified, but now I'm fascinated. I find it interesting looking as the final resting place of one of my ancestors," says Vinceti.
According to historians the Gherardini died in 1542 and was the wife of a wealthy silk merchant Francesco del Giocondo.
The group has so far found some nice pieces of pottery.
The aim of the excavation is to compare the DNA of scientists Gherardini with two of her children who are buried in the church Santissima Annunziata in Florence and then try to compare her face with that of the table Da Vinci.
