Teenagers playing computer games tend to eat more, says a new ...
scientific study, which links directly to video games with obesity.
The researchers found that those who deal regularly with video games are more likely to become obese than those who play occasionally or not at all.
This conclusion is based on the finding that the preoccupation with video games is directly related to the spontaneous food intake. The teens are engrossed in video games and "forgotten" mechanical looking something to eat.
It supports Danish and Canadian researchers in their study entitled "Video games increase food intake in adolescents", published in the journal American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition).
These findings
Scientists wanted to see if the preoccupation with video games leads to increased calorie consumption by trying to confirm their theory that the games associated with spontaneous and mechanical eating.
The study included healthy, normal weight male adolescents, with an average age of 17 years, were divided into two groups. Members of the first group of sports gamers for an hour, while members of the second group rested at the same time.
The examination, which was repeated a second day began at 10:30 this morning. Two and a half hours before the participants had taken a typical morning without having eaten anything during the night.
The researchers took blood samples from teenagers every 10 minutes, controlling the energy they did.
In front of the spaghetti
After 60 minutes, put in front of every teenager a spaghetti. Depending on the reaction of everyone (though what he ate), counted and evaluated the rate of food intake, appetite, hunger and satiety of every adolescent.
The scientists found that blood glucose concentrations were higher in those who had previously played video games than those who were rested.
However, no significant effect on insulin or ghrelin, a hormone thought to trigger hunger in the brain.
Despite the fact that energy consumption was 21 calories per hour higher in those who played video games compared with those who rested, it was found that adolescents in the first group then ate 80 calories more than those of the second group.
Conclusions
Analyzing the findings, the researchers concluded that male teens who play video games for an hour, consuming more calories than those who rest at the same time.
The tendency to overeating after dealing with computer games displayed without changing the mood and feeling of hunger. In other words, those who play video games looking for food, but not necessarily hungry.
The researchers said that additional studies to determine long-term effects of video games to increased body weight and health.
However, they added that the survey results show a high degree of certainty that the video "may affect food intake.
